This family-owned winery in Bački Vinogradi, in nothern Vojvodina, is unique in that it produces wines made exclusively from the Kadarka grape. This grape is thought to have originated around the shores of Skadar Lake (where it was called Skadarka) but became extinct on the Montenegrin side following the phylloxera plague at the end of the 19th century. Having been transplated to southern Hungary and northern Serbia so that it could be grown for the Hungarian court, it has thrived in this cooler climate. Tonković has grown into the largest grower of Kadarka in Serbia, and the most esteemed producer of Kadarka wines.
