Valle
Valle is a hugely successful blend of Malvazija Istriana (80%) and Sauvignon Blanc. The former gives body and texture to the blend, while the latter is adding liveness, freshness, and a lovely aromatic complexity. On the nose it is pronounced, youthful, and aromatic. Despite being only 20% the Sauvignon Blanc dominates the blend in a nice way, giving it the flavours of grass, elderflower, lemon, oranges, grapefruit, pineapple but also a hint of tropical aromas such as passion fruit. Dried herbs and minerality are intertwined with a lot of freshness. Pair it with salads, vegetables, lighter risottos and pastas, and of course with seafood.
Kozlović
Kozlović is one of the best known wineries of Istria. The family has been producing wines since 1904, and enjoys a well-earned reputation for quality. The family is also privileged to own the Santa Lucia cru, an historic hill-top site with ideal terroir and plenty of sunshine. The old vines here are used to produce their most important wines, all with the single vineyard designation, including the “Super-Istrian” Santa Lucia Noir. The hilltop Santa Lucia vineyard is probably the most famous cru in all of Istria ... a region known for its wonderful vineyard sites. The combination of soils, sunshine and gentle breezes allow the highest quality grapes to achieve peak ripeness. In the hands of a master like Gianfranco Kozlović, these grapes can be crafted into some of Croatia’s – and the world’s – most compelling wines. To wit: Kozlović’s Santa Lucia Malvazija was namds world’s best Malvasia in 2022.
